Michael Baers (1968, Los Angeles) lives and works in Berlin.

He is an artist and writer whose work, while covering a wide variety of topics, focuses on the intersection of artistic practice, institutional and state policy, and national/international politics—the latter considered in its many guises. He has sometimes referred to this set of interests as “social art history by other means.” His work often develops out of oral history collecting and other forms of research. Since 2020 Baers is an affiliated researcher at Leibniz-Zentrum Moderner Orient (ZMO) in Berlin.
